Plant description: 

  • Originated from Southern Florida and the Caribbean, a baby rubber also called Peperomia Obtusifolia Variegata is a popular indoor plant having thick upright stems with glossy, oversized leaves.
  • Baby rubber plant is a bushy erect plant that grows up to 30 cm tall on thick erect stems.
  • The leaves are thick and dark green, waxy, elliptic-oval shaped and about 1-6 inches long, comes in multiple shades of dark green, olive green and a lovely creamy white.

Baby Rubber plant require well drained soils and medium to bright indirect light.

Peperomia obtusifolia Variegata Care Tips:

  1. Water requirement is moderate.
  2. Water Baby rubber plant twice a week when the soil becomes dry.
  3. The soil moisture should always be monitored to check the hydration level.
  4. Also known as Pepper Face or Blunt-Leaf Peperomia, cannot tolerate too much water.
  5. Use any organic manure once in a month for its good growth.
  6. Farmyard manure, Vermi-compost@50-100 gram/plant or application of Boon(19:19:19)@5 gram/litre of water can be used.

Baby Rubber Plant Special Features

  1. Baby rubber plants grow best in pots or raised beds.
  2. Some leaves have whitish or yellowish tints that look like marble.
  3. The plant has a hanging or weeping growth habit.

Received a healthy plant

I received a healthy plant and it's doing well in my garden. It would be better if the pot was slightly of a better quality. Sometimes, the plants are small and we prefer to keep them in the original pot for a few more days/months. In that case, we need a better quality pot.
