Vidya plant is an evergreen garden shrub common in India, Botanically known as Thuja; It is a non-flowering, seed-bearing plant. The popular common name of the Vidya plant is 'Mayoor pankhi' or 'Morpankhi', due to its distinct appearance of foliage that resembles open feather tail of a peacock. The shoots are flat, with side shoots only in a single plane. They are slow-growing trees and prefer wet soils. Thuja occidental is conical in shape, with the lower branches almost horizontal to the ground and the upper branches more nearly vertical, forming a dense cone at the top of the tree. The plant leaves are bright green, opposite leaves that resemble overlapping scales, and give off a fragrant odor when crushed. |
