Beans Selection 9 is one of the easiest vegetables to grow. They germinate quickly, grow fast, and give a high yield if started correctly. Here’s a clear, practical guide to grow Beans Selection 9 from seeds — suitable for home gardening, pots, or farm beds.
Seed Selection & Preparation
Use fresh, good-quality Selection 9 seeds.
No need to soak beans but soaking for 4–6 hours improve germination.
Do not sow damaged or shriveled seeds.
Soil Requirements
Light, well-drained soil is best.
Ideal pH: 6.0 – 7.5
Mix:
Garden soil – 50%
Compost/vermicompost – 30%
Cocopeat or sand – 20% (for drainage)
Avoid heavy clay soil or waterlogged areas.
Climate
Beans love warm weather.
Ideal temperature for germination: 20–30°C.
Sow after the last frost (if your area gets cold nights).
How to Sow the Seeds
In Pots
Use a 12–14 inch pot (minimum).
Make holes 1–1.5 inches deep.
Drop 2 seeds per hole, cover lightly.
Maintain at least 3–4 inches spacing.
In Garden Beds
Make rows with 45 cm spacing.
Plant seeds 5–6 cm apart.
Depth: 2–2.5 cm.
Watering
Water gently right after sowing.
Keep soil moist (not soggy) until seedlings appear.
After germination: water every 2–3 days.
Avoid watering the leaves to prevent fungal diseases.
Support/Trellis
Selection 9 is usually a climbing/pole bean.
Provide support after seedlings grow 8–10 cm:
Bamboo sticks
Nylon net
Trellis
Tie plants lightly if needed.
Fertilizing
Beans do not need much fertilizer because they fix nitrogen in the soil.
Add vermicompost once every 20–25 days.
Avoid too much nitrogen fertilizer—this causes more leaves, fewer pods.
Pest & Disease Protection
Common issues:
Aphids
Leaf miner
Mites
Powdery mildew
Use:
Neem oil spray (5 ml per liter) every 10 days.
Good airflow and sunlight reduce disease.
Harvesting
First harvest: 45–55 days after sowing.
Pick pods when they are:
Tender
Green
Not swollen with seeds
Regular harvesting encourages more flowers and pods.
