Growing Parsley from seeds is a great way to enjoy fresh, aromatic greens for garnishing and cooking—all year round! Here's a simple, step-by-step guide tailored for Indian climates and small spaces:

    Best Time to Sow

    • Ideal Season:

      • North India: October to February

      • South India: September to January or in shaded spots year-round

    • Prefers cool to moderate weather (15–25°C)

    Container Requirements

    • Depth: At least 8–10 inches

    • Type: Medium-sized pots, window boxes, or grow bags

    • Ensure good drainage at the bottom

    Soil Mix

    Parsley loves nutrient-rich, loose soil:

    • 40% garden soil

    • 30% compost/vermicompost

    • 30% cocopeat or river sand

👉 Mix in a handful of wood ash or bone meal for better growth.

    Sowing the Seeds

    • Parsley seeds have a hard coat—soak them overnight to improve germination

    • Sow ½ cm deep, spaced about 1 inch apart

    • Cover lightly with soil or cocopeat

    • Keep moist but not soggy

    • Germination can take 14–21 days, so be patient!

    Sunlight

    • Requires 4–6 hours of direct or filtered sunlight

    • In hotter regions, provide partial shade in the afternoon

    Watering

    • Water when the top inch of soil feels dry

    • Keep soil consistently moist during early growth

    • Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot

    Feeding

    • Add organic compost or liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks

    • Avoid chemical fertilizers for edible greens

    Harvesting

    • Start harvesting 30–40 days after sowing

    • Cut outer leaves first; leave the inner stems to grow further

    • Regular trimming encourages bushier growth

    Pests & Care

    • Watch for aphids and whiteflies

    • Spray neem oil (5 ml per liter of water) every 10–15 days

    • Keep the area clean and well-ventilated
