    Variety Iceberg, Romaine

Easy to grow and quick to harvest, lettuce thrives in cooler weather, making it an ideal crop for winter season. With its vibrant green leaves and various textures—from buttery and tender to crunchy and crisp—lettuce adds both nutrition and visual appeal to your meals. It’s perfect for enjoying fresh in salads, wraps, or as a garnish for your favorite dishes. This fast-growing vegetable can be harvested in as little as 30 days.

    Choosing the Right Variety

    • Romaine/Cos Lettuce: Grows well in slightly warm conditions.
    • Butterhead & Iceberg Lettuce: Need cooler temperatures, best in winter or shaded conditions.

    Best Time to Plant

    • Winter Season (October - February): Ideal for most regions.
    • Hills & Cooler Areas: Can be grown from March to June.
    • In Summer: Grow in shaded.

    Soil Preparation

    • Well-draining, loamy soil mixed with organic compost or cow dung manure before planting.

    Sowing Lettuce Seeds

    • Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in seed trays or directly in the soil.
    • Maintain spacing of 20-30 cm between plants.
    • Water lightly every day to keep the soil moist.
    • Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep directly in soil or in seedling tray filled with cocopeat. Place one seed in each cavity. Cover seeds lightly with soil or cocopeat and sprinkle water. After 7-10 days seeds will germinate. When two sets of true leaves appear, transplant seedlings in larger pots or 20-30 cm inches apart in soil. Use wide, shallow pots (6-8 inches deep) with good drainage.

    Sunlight & Temperature

    • Prefers cool temperatures (15-22°C).
    • In warmer regions, provide partial shade to avoid bolting (premature flowering).

    Watering & Care

    • Water regularly but avoid overwatering.
    • Mulch around plants to retain soil moisture.
    • Use neem oil or organic pesticides to prevent aphids and leaf-eating insects.

    Fertilization

    • Use compost or liquid organic fertilizers, every 2-3 weeks.
    • Avoid excessive nitrogen to prevent excessive leaf growth with weak structure.

    Harvesting

    • Head lettuce (Iceberg, Romaine): Takes around 50-70 days to mature
