Growing Peas from seeds in containers is super rewarding—they’re quick to grow, easy to manage, and taste amazing fresh off the vine! Here’s your simple guide:

Best Time to Sow

  • Ideal Season:

    • North India: October to January

    • South India: November to February (cooler months)

  • Peas love cool weather between 10°C and 25°C

Container Requirements

  • Depth: Minimum 10–12 inches

  • Width: Wider containers or rectangular boxes are ideal

  • Must have good drainage holes

Sowing the Seeds

  • Soak seeds for 6–8 hours before sowing (optional, speeds germination)

  • Sow seeds 1 inch deep and 2–3 inches apart

  • Cover with soil and water gently

  • Germination time: 5–10 days

Soil Mix

  • Light, well-draining, and rich in organic matter

  • Use:

    • 40% garden soil

    • 30% compost/vermicompost

    • 30% cocopeat or sand

Bonus: Mix in a handful of bone meal for root development.

Sunlight

  • Needs 4–6 hours of direct sunlight

  • Prefers cooler spots with good air circulation

Watering

  • Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy

  • Water when the top inch feels dry

Support

  • Pea plants are climbers!

  • Provide stakes, a trellis, or string for them to latch onto once they're 4–5 inches tall

Feeding

  • Add compost every 15–20 days

  • Peas are light feeders—avoid too much nitrogen

Harvesting

  • Harvest pods when they're plump but still tender (usually around 60–70 days)

  • Pick regularly to encourage more flowering

Pests & Protection

  • Watch out for aphids and powdery mildew

  • Use neem spray or soap water for pests

  • Avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal issues
